Good morning. In less than 24 hours, America begins a new era. President-Elect Barack Obama will be sworn in as the 44th leader of this nation. Many people are celebrating this moment in time for various reason, all legitimate to a degree I’m sure. But to me, this inauguration means a defining moment in American history. Not just because of a political party’s victory, not because of the nation’s first black president, but simply because it is a result of our nation coming together and restoring our roots of democracy.
This inauguration symbolizes and restores the faith in our federal government by inclusiveness and transparency. This inauguration defies the stereotypical description of my generation (Generation X) because we, along with those before us, made this moment happen in spite of being labeled as a group of cynical, hopeless, frustrated and unmotivated people.
It is my generation that has boldly and aggressively acknowledged the ideas that we are a generation who will pull away from class, status and money in society and that we would be too preoccupied with inherited problems to advance ourselves. Well, this is somewhat true. The greater focus on class, status, and money has landed us right where we are now so do prepare for the opposite. Yes, we have inherited more problems than we can seemingly bare, however, by coming together and executing our rights as Americans and by putting aside partisan views and simply putting the future of America before us, we have laid a new path so that our children and our grandchildren will not inherit the problems that stand before us now. Together, we will rise to exceed the standards of this nation, and we will regain the identity that we’ve lost over the years – the United States of America
“It’s the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled – Americans who sent a message to the world that we have never been a collection of Red States and Blue States: we are, and always will be, the United States of America.” – President-Elect Barack Obama
Moving forward – Kimberly
