…Then we are leading them astray. Good morning. I once knew a young lady that lots of people clung to. Not because she was popular, not because of her personality, but instead because she fed their need for attention and sympathy. I was just a teenager then and boy am I glad that God called me on it. I'd listen to people's problems and give them "all me" advice. Not once did I ever say, "well let's pray about it" or "God will help you in this." Because I was churched and because I was saved, I felt like I'd conquered all and could help everyone. How FOOLISH!
We are not God and I'm confident that He doesn't appreciate us trying to be. Just because a broken heart or the broken in spirit stumbles into our life, it doesn't necessarily mean that they need our help. Our finances are not what they need and our 20, 30, or 40 years of experience on this Earth isn't what they need. In many cases all they need is an ear to listen and a hand to hold in prayer as we expose them to the knowledge and power of Christ. That's it! If they are meant to be a lasting part of our life then God will make provisions for that relationship to be birthed, but if not, we sleep in peace knowing that they are where they need to be….solely relying on God, NOT us.
Today, many people call me harsh because there are just some ideals and some conversations I won't hear and I won't entertain. Its not that I don't care but if I cant help, why respond otherwise? I am called "stuck up" because materialistic things don't excite me or because having people like me and adore me doesn't excite me. Since when did an entourage and riches get you into heaven anyway? Since when did being a "self contained" counselor save a soul? NEVER!
If this is all confusing, let me put it this way. The road that leads to Christ ends with Christ; there is absolutely, unequivocally, NO way for man to take you any further.
Now I'm not saying that God can't use us to help people because He does it everyday. What I am saying is that when we find ourselves in a position to help someone, we need to make sure that our next action is led by God and not our human desire to be needed.
